Cézanne has always defied and opposed traditional artistic classifications. Refused from the official 'salons' of Paris , this misanthropist never willed to fit into the categories of realist, impressionist, neo-impressionist that people seemed to require of him. Cézanne challenged the painters and institutions of this era.

Peintre inclassable, Paul Cézanne (1839-1906) est un provocateur qui a du « temmpérammennte ». Longtemps refusé aux Salons officiels, ce misanthrope sen prend aux critiques, à ses confrères et cherche à se démarquer des courants, tant réaliste quimpressionniste ou néo-impressionniste dans lesquels on voudrait lenfermer. Dans ces propos choisis, surgit un Cézanne « brut de brut » qui parle avec laccent du Midi et critique vertement la peinture et les institutions de son époque.
