The provocative French director talks about his rich and varied career, focusing notably on _ Préparez vos mouchoirs_ (1978) and discusses his approach to filmmaking and directing favourite actors such as Gérard Depardieu whom he collaborated with eight times. Scriptwriter for all his films, nonconformist and iconoclast, Bertrand Blier quickly developed a unique style capable of handling provocation, black humour and the absurd. In his latest film, The Clink of Ice, Blier has taken the taboo subject of cancer and addressed it head on, continuing his tradition of controversial and provocative subject matter.
Bertrand Blier was in conversation with Dr Sue Harris (Queen Mary University of London) who has published a monograph, Bertrand Blier (MUP, 2001). The masterclass has been illustrated with film clips.
